So Lucy Liu is going to be Watson in CBS’ ‘Elementary’
Okay. I have thoughts about this. Oddly enough, it isn’t so much about Watson being female as it is about everything else in that article. And the fact that not everybody cares about gender as little as I do, and that they have likely made Watson female for a reason I am not going to like.
The obvious problem numero uno I have with this is what I’m sure several of my followers are clever enough to deduce. I don’t think they’re making Watson a woman just to be modern and shit. I have a bad feeling that they might be planning for her to become Holmes’ love interest. And in that case, obviously Watson needs to be female.
My problem numero due is that shitty piece of plot we saw. Since we made Watson female, we obviously can’t make her a soldier (it’s not my job to tell why, I didn’t make this decision, and I never would have). Let’s make her a woman who tried to be independent and professional but failed! And now we can make her fall head over heels in love with Holmes. Who’s fresh off a rehab clinic.
Who lives in New York.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND HOW MANY LEVELS OF WRONG THAT IS
It’s like, the main characters in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories are Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, and London.
I have a feeling I’m not going to see enough BAMF!Watson in this series. I am very scared they are going to ruin the friendship that Holmes and Watson have. I certainly don’t want this to be made into a love story. But hey, that’s life. Everything has to be romance these days. Even Sherlock Holmes, which clearly never was. (Or maybe it was, but never in a blatant, obvious, model-bodies-and-on-screen-kisses sort of way.)
Oh, now I’m just thinking about the possibility of a forced romance sort of thing, and it’s just making me nauseous.
Seriously. This whole ordeal with “Elementary”. It must be illegal somehow. Please tell me it’s illegal. The good part is that nobody is going to make me watch this, because they know that I adore Sherlock Holmes, and this just… Isn’t.
All my feelings are making it hard to write something intelligent and whatever.
You put that a lot better than I ever could.
This version sounds more and more like hot garbage than a cool Sherlock adaptation. It’s highly unlikely that I’m going to bother watching this. Seriously, it’s not worth the space it would take up on the family DVR.
I love it when people agree with me :D
This is actually exactly what I’m afraid of. I hadn’t even thought about how they wouldn’t be able to make her a soldier, and now I’m absolutely terrified of what they’re going to do. If they screw up the amazing relationship that my two favorite characters have, or mess with my BAMF Watson, I swear there’ll be blood.
I agree with all that… Like I said on a previous post, by trying to change a shitload of stuff so that they didn’t get sued by the BBC, CBS basically ruined Sherlock Holmes. I mean, honestly… The New York thing is already hogwash! I mean, if the location of the Baker Street boys weren’t important, than Conan Doyle wouldn’t have put them in London! He probably would’ve chosen Edinburgh or Glasgow, or something. London is important. So making the show in New York is fuck-up no.1. This femme!Watson crap is just so that they can make a cute little couple out of the two of them without worrying about making the Americans uncomfortable with the proximity of two guys. I mean, Sherlock Holmes and John Watson are the ultimate bromance and by turning Watson into a woman they’ve completely and utterly ruined it.
